JEFI SIGNS MOA WITH BIOTECHCORP AND MARDI

JEFI Aquatech Resources Sdn Bhd (JEFI) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with BiotechCorp and MARDI on engaging their Centre for Marker Discovery and Validation (CMDV) Services, to develop JEFI’s research and development (R&D) in aquaculture. The document exchange session for the MOA was held during the opening ceremony of BioMalaysia 2011, which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. This R&D project will be conducted by JEFI, by utilizing biotechnological tools and applications specifically the Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) technology platform in the breeding of shrimp and other aquaculture products. This R&D project aims to develop healthier shrimp fry to support the Malaysian shrimp farming industry, which is from time to time, affected by various diseases. JEFI’s operation centre is located in Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), under nurturing of Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA). JEFI has been identified as one of the anchor companies in the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) by Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) in June 2011. Through its RM375 million Integrated Shrimp Project, JEFI is also working very closely with Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), Department of Fisheries (DOF), and Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), which are very supportive in JEFI’s aim to develop Malaysia as a leading shrimp producer in the global halal market.
